MEET THE TEAM

   Carl Butler BSc (Hons) FA Dip MSST MCSP SRP
Clinical Director (Head Physiotherapist) 

Carl Butler is Clinical Director and Head Physiotherapist at Active Total Health. He studied Sports Therapy in London, qualifying in August 1999. Carl is a Chartered Physiotherapist and is also a member of the Society of Sports Therapists, Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports Medicine (ACPSM) and the Organisation of Chartered Physiotherapists in Private Practice (OCPPP). His Career started at The Cambridge Physiotherapy Clinic from where he moved onto Cambridge United and Cambridge City Football Clubs and today continues to practice in Professional Football. He has worked with many high profile Players, Managers, Coaches and Physiotherapists within the Premiership and Championship Football Leagues, as well as many national & international Sports Specialists and Physicians.

 Carl Dunstan BSc (Hons) MSCP SRP
Lead Physiotherapist

Carl graduated in 2001 from the University of Nottingham with a BSc (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy.
After working in numerous areas of clinical practice and gaining broad experience, he exclusively pursued a strong interest in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.
Carl is currently Senior Physiotherapist at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham has worked in several specialist areas such as inpatient & outpatient Orthopaedic rehabilitation, Spinal Disorders, Hand Injuries and frontline emergency care.
As well as working for the NHS, Carl has worked for Active Total Health since 2006 and continues to use his experience to treat a wide range of acute and chronic musculoskeletal disorders. 

 Andy Lord MSc BSc (Hons) MSCP SRP
Physiotherapist

Andy graduated from Sheffield Hallum University in 2002 with a BSc (Hons) degree in Sport & Exercise Science. Once qualifying he worked in the health & fitness industry as a Personal Trainer. Andy then went on to complete an MSc in Rehabilitation Science and qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist from the University of Brighton. Having worked within the NHS in Nottingham, Andy currently works in Professional Football as well as Active Total Health.

 Matthew McGovern BSc (Hons) BA (Hons) MCSP SRP
Physiotherapist / Acupuncturist

Matt first qualified with a BA (Hons) degree in Physical Education before going on to do a BSc (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy. Matt currently works as a Chartered Physiotherapist for the RAF in a musculoskeletal outpatient’s role, as well as being the Chartered Physiotherapist for the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), holding a National Sailing Coaching Qualification himself. This experience of elite level sport adds to Active Total Health’s team’s wealth of knowledge.


 Dan Sturt BSc (Hons) MCSP SRP
Physiotherapist / Acupuncturist

Dan qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in Coventry & has since worked for the NHS at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham, where he currently holds a senior role specialising in musculoskeletal injuries. Dan runs a Physiotherapy service for athletes at the Nottingham Tennis Centre, himself holding an LTA tennis ranking. Dan is a keen sportsman & has an in-depth knowledge of strength training which he applies to his treatment of athletes and brings this experience to the Active Total Health team.

Fergus Ross D.Pod.M
Podiatrist / Chiropodist

Fergus is our consultant Podiatrist and Chiropodist.
As well as working alongside the medical team at Active Total Health, Fergus also acts as consultant for Aston Villa Football Club, West Bromwich Albion Football Club, Bolton Wanderers Football Club & Leicester Tigers Rugby Football Club.

Dr Mark Hale
GP – Special Interest in Sports Medicine

Dr Hale is General Practitioner who has a special interest in Sports medicine and has experience as a team doctor in Professional Football. Mark is also partner in a major NHS GP Surgery in Derby.
Dr Hale’s interest in Sports Medicine means he is a useful point of referral for all sports medicine concerns and provides vital back up for our medical team at Active Total Health.

Nigel Ashley-Jones
Fitness Conditioner / Consultant

Nigel was educated at the University of Western Australia, and graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science (Sports science) Degree. Immediately embarked
on a career in professional Rugby League which has since expanded into thirteen years in the United Kingdom working in the English Super League with Wigan
(Winning the Premiership & Challenge Cup) and St Helens (winning the Premiership), Rugby Unions Guinness Premiership with Saracens and most recently with Wigan Athletic in English Football’s Premiership and Championship competitions. Nigel currently works within Professional Football as well as a consultant to Active Total Health.
